Final Blog
If I had one final lecture to share with student I would tell them that life is too short to not make it meaningful. The cost of not taking a chance heavily outweighs the cost of failure. At the end of our lives we will have time to meditate and think about how it went. Feeling content never is about money, power, or fame. Those things fade. What remains are three questions. Have I contributed something meaningful? Was I a good person? Who did I love, and who loved me? If we can answer these questions truthfully we will have lived a life of meaning.
My last piece of advice to someone starting their entrepreneurial journey is that family is the most important thing in life. If you nurture and love our family you will find more success in your carrier and business endeavors. If you don't you still might succeed, but you will find yourself in the midst of your success all alone. With the financial freedom to spend with no one. Choose your family and your life will work out. Make the sacrifices to be there for them. Make healthy compromises like eating dinner as a family in the office so you can finish a task or bringing them along to a business trip. You will never regret it.
My word of caution to someone starting their entrepreneurial journey is that ethical guardrails are not only good, but they are necessary for long term success. Without ethical guardrails we will find ourselves at the crossroads of a big decision one day. If we are not prepared will most likely make a choice that will hurt us later on. This could be dishonesty, cheating, or maybe even fraud. In the moment this choice will loo appealing or easy, but it is not worth it. Don't fall for the trap of instant gratification, choose to be true to yourself and your principles.
